DAN CREEK, OLDEST OPERATING GOLD MINE IN ALASKA

Dan Creek is located  in the heart of Wrangell St. Elias National Park which has been characterized as "one of the scenic wonders of the world".  Twenty miles east of McCarthy, Alaska across the Nizina River, Dan Creek was mined continuously until the present day.  Gold has been the chief yield, although forty tons of copper nuggets also have been produced and Dan Creek is famed as the discovery site of a three-ton copper nugget which resides at the University of Alaska Museum of the North.
